recording on bm5000s

Hi there.

I recently bought a bm5000s and i have to say im delighted with what ive got but after buying a hard drive and plugging it in to the box using a sata-usb cable i still cannot record. I get an error message saying operate failed.
Just wanted to know if there was anything i needed to do or if i was doing anything wrong.

hope somebody can help me on this.
