Box won't work when left alone for a while

Hi guys

Whenever I leave the house for a while and turn the tv off I come home and the box still has the channel number on the display but the box has either frozen or the remote will not work, and the tv won't recognised it's connected. I have to turn it off via the switch on the back every time this happens.

Any ideas?
