Timeshift/USB

Ok, I'm still new to this, so please bear with me.

I pause and rewind programmes and have noticed the percentage goes up everytime, I guess that's cos it uses memory from the USB stick?

Is there anything I need to do to clear this, or if I'm wrong, why is there a percentage showing?
